Band 8a Lead Pharmacist Clinical Trials Pharmacist
Job description
The Pharmacist appointed will be a member of the pharmacy team providing Pharmaceutical Services to the Southern Health and Social Services Trust. To be responsible for ensuring that pharmaceutical aspects of studies adopted by the SHSCT are maintained in line with current legislation and both SHSCT and local standard operating procedures. He/She will be responsible for the setting up and managing of all clinical trials and will liaise with R&D unit to co-ordinate appropriate pharmaceutical input into clinical studies. This input will involve the reviewing of trial protocols prior to set-up, establishing and overseeing operational procedures, and closing down of completed trials.
Responsibilities
- Review and critique clinical trial protocols, incorporating further comment from appropriate specialist clinical and technical pharmacists.
- To develop and revise Trust medicine policies and procedures to comply with medicines legislation, professional standards and best practice.
- To act as the main contact with trial sponsors with key responsibilities regarding the setting up, on-going monitoring and closing down of Clinical Trials.
- To act as the main contact with trial sponsors when modifications are required to the trial protocol, before the trial can be practically undertaken.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- MPharm in Pharmacy or equivalent.
- Registered with the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland (PSNI) or eligible to register.
- Registered as a Pharmacist Independent Prescriber or willing to undertake.
- Completed or enrolled in a Post Graduate Masters, or equivalent, in relevant area of pharmacy.
- 3 years in hospital, 2 of which must be at Band 7 or above.
