Job description

The Assistant Support Services Manager will support the Support Services Manager in the efficient implementation of agreed strategic and operational issues within areas that include Catering, Environmental Cleanliness, Laundry and Logistic Services (Car Parking, Portering, Security, Transport and Waste). The Assistant Support Services Manager will provide technical and/or specialist advice in respect of their span of control. The Assistant Support Services Manager will be responsible and accountable for the planning, coordination and delivery of high quality services and ensure high standards of performance through the setting of targets, monitoring and review of practices, processes and procedures. The post holder will have delegated budgetary responsibilities for both expenditure and income (where appropriate) and act as signatory in accordance with the Trust’s Authorisation Framework. The Assistant Support Services Manager will provide clear leadership to all staff in their area of responsibility, and will be responsible for effective financial management together with the efficient use of resources. The Assistant Support Services Manager will contribute at an appropriate level to the strategic direction of Support Services including the implementation of Trust policy.

Responsibilities

  • To assist the Support Services Manager in the professional delivery of Support Services for the Trust.
  • To contribute to the business planning process, at an appropriate level, within Patient & Client Support Services and in collaboration with the Directorate’s Planning Performance and Innovation function.
  • To identify opportunities for service improvements within existing resources; implement remedial measures; and evaluate impact.
  • To contribute to the compilation of service development proposals appropriate to the post holder’s span of control.
  • To contribute to effective service planning, monitoring and control against key performance indicators appropriate to the post holder’s span of control.
  • To identify asset/equipment requirements for submission of capital bids.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • A relevant University Degree or equivalent/higher qualification or recognised professional qualification which is hospitality and/or management related AND
  • (cont) minimum of 1 years’ relevant experience in paid employment working in a role involving ancillary support services in a complex organisation at supervisory and/or first line management level (Band 3 or above).
  • OR HNC / HND or equivalent/higher qualification which is hospitality and/or management related AND
  • (cont) a minimum of 2 years’ experience in paid employment working in a role involving relevant ancillary support services in a complex organisation at supervisory level (Band 3 or above)
  • OR A minimum of 4 years’ experience in paid employment working in a role involving relevant ancillary support services in a complex organisation at supervisory or first line management level (Band 3 or above).

Desirable Skills

  • Risk management qualification IOSH or above.
