Job description

It is widely recognised that consistent, accurate and timely coded clinical data is vital to the planning, provision and management of high-quality healthcare services. This post holder will report to the Regional Clinical Coding Services Coordinator. They will be responsible for providing helpdesk and clinical coding administration for the Regional Clinical Coding Services.

Responsibilities

• To log clinical coding queries accurately ensuring all diagnoses and procedures are as specifically described as possible.
• To understand the National Clinical Coding Query Mechanism and to establish where the Regional Helpdesk sits within this structure.
• To be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing as appropriate with those departments seeking query resolutions.
• To research queries using all clinical coding tools available.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• The UK National Clinical Coding Qualification (UK NCCQ) and a minimum of 3 years working knowledge of the International Classification of Diseases.
• OR Have attended a National Clinical Coding Standards Course and attended a Clinical Coding Refresher Course (within the last 3 years) and have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working as a Clinical Coder in a Clinical Coding Department.
• AND Applicants must have experience in using Microsoft Office Packages.
