Community Stroke Physiotherapist


Job description

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of a high quality, efficient and effective physiotherapy service, working on a holistic basis to attain the best outcome for this patient group. The Community Stroke / ESD Team supports patients with a diagnosis of stroke discharged from Altnagelvin or South West Acute Hospitals to their home or other step down accommodation in the Community, providing high intensity supported rehabilitation programs to achieve each individuals full potential in an effort to maintain them at home. The post holder will work inter-professionally and provide an intensive treatment program for each referred patient. They will be required to liaise with colleagues (multidisciplinary) from the acute, community and intermediate care sectors. They will perform specialist physiotherapy assessment and treat patients within this speciality who have complex and/or chronic presentation, determine clinical diagnosis; physiotherapy treatments indicated and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner. They, in conjunction with their speciality leads, peers and junior colleagues, will assist in review and development of the service as deemed necessary to meet objectives. The post holder may be asked to support the Acute Stroke Unit on occasions depending on service needs.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 18 months post registration experience to include a minimum of 6 months post registration experience in the clinical management of adult neurology patients.

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience supervising junior physiotherapists and support staff.
  • Experience in adult neurology above the minimum 6 months in neurology.
