Job description

Our Cooks are responsible for the planning, preparation and cooking of meals and the supervision of the kitchen.

Responsibilities

  • Plan all menus, taking into account residents’ specific dietary requirements and their individual requests and to liaise with the Home Manager to agree menus.
  • Maintain sufficient stock and operate within the budget, ensuring minimum waste and efficient use of stock.
  • Ensure the kitchen area is clean and tidy and complies with health and safety regulations, food hygiene and other legal requirements.
  • Act in a professional, friendly fashion to the residents at the home and their family and visitors ensuring their privacy is respected when required.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • NVQ Level 2 or City & Guilds in Catering & Hospitality, or an equivalent catering/kitchen related qualification OR have 2 years’ experience of working in a kitchen
  • Willingness to attain qualification Level 2 in Food & Hygiene

Desirable Skills

  • Be able to show some knowledge of the diets of older people / menu planning.
