Job description

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone with deep dairy industry knowledge and a passion for artisan food production. You will play a central role in the setup and management of a new small-scale butter factory, from designing workflows and selecting equipment to leading day-to-day operations once the site is up and running.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the setup of a new artisan butter facility, including layout planning, workflow design, and implementation of production systems.
  • Specify, source, and manage the installation of appropriate butter-making and dairy processing equipment.
  • Take full responsibility for process design and continuous improvement in alignment with artisan production values.
  • Manage and train a small team, fostering a high-performance, quality-driven culture.
  • Oversee all aspects of daily butter production from cream intake to packaging.
  • Work with our quality control manager to maintain rigorous hygiene and food safety standards throughout production.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on strategic planning, product development, and growth.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Strong experience in the dairy industry, specifically in butter production.
  • Deep understanding of artisan food production practices, standards, and values.
  • Ability to translate large-scale dairy production experience into high-quality small-batch processes.
  • Demonstrated experience in setting up production facilities or leading major operational projects.
  • Knowledge of dairy processing equipment, with the ability to assess machinery and provide staff training.
  • Excellent leadership, team building, and training skills.
  • Highly organised, self-motivated, and quality-focused.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with artisan food &/or small batch dairy.
  • Familiarity with HACCP and food safety management in an artisan or small-scale production context.
