DFC Work Experience - General Operative
Job description
The post holder will be trained to perform tasks in various areas of production as required - including but not limited to the fitting shop, welding, cutting and Paintshop. You will ensure that high quality standards are maintained at all times and complete any general housekeeping duties required.
Responsibilities
- Meet set targets while working in designated area.
- Support and assist in solutions to overcome problems found in production departments (fitting, weld, cutting, paint).
- Safe and controlled movement of production parts, for example manual handling, use of mechanical aids, lifting and transporting components in the workshop using gantry and Jib cranes.
- Leave working areas in a fit state to ensure no unnecessary health and safety risks prevail. Work in a manner that ensures the safety of oneself and other colleagues.
- Quality, ensure that parts are made to the correct standard - do not send on parts with poor quality workmanship.
- Safe operation of equipment and machinery by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, calling for repairs.
- Daily equipment checks.
- Resolve minor issues, escalating major problems to supervisors or the maintenance team.
- Work closely with other employees, supervisors, and production teams to meet production deadlines.
- General housekeeping of work area.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Good communication skills.
- Good problem solver.
- Flexibility to move between required tasks and departments (training provided).
- Good organisational, planning and time management skills.
- Good standard of English for communication purposes. Can follow instructions.
Desirable Skills
- Previous experience in a similar role/ a manufacturing environment.
Further Information
This work experience opportunity is expected to last for 8 weeks and will require attendance of 25 hours per week. While on Work Experience, participants will retain their entitlement to benefit. Those who are not receiving benefit are also welcome to participate. Travel and childcare costs may be reimbursed. Participants will also receive an incentive payment equivalent to £10/day to a maximum of £50/week.
