Job description

ONE Pharmacy Technician is required to join the pharmacy team at Antrim Area Hospital on a full-time, temporary basis for an initial period of 6 months. This role is available for an immediate start and is paid at Band 4 (£13.57 per hour). In this position, you will be responsible for dispensing medications for both inpatients and outpatients, supporting medicines management on wards, and preparing specialist products such as aseptic and cytotoxic medicines. You will work closely with pharmacists and nursing staff to ensure the accurate and timely supply of medicines, maintain stock levels, and support audits and quality assurance processes.

Responsibilities

• Dispense discharge and outpatient prescriptions, including controlled drugs and compliance aids, using pharmacy systems.
• Support ward-based services through medicines management activities such as Kardex checks, top-ups, and assessing patients’ own drugs.
• Assist in the preparation and pre-packing of medicines, including aseptic and cytotoxic products following all relevant guidelines and procedures.
• Maintain stock control across departments and wards, support audits, and manage medicine returns.
• Operate pharmacy IT systems and assist with documentation, quality assurance, and reporting of incidents.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• BTEC or NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent.
• Minimum of 18 months relevant work-based experience.
