Job description

The Frame Maker is responsible for constructing high-quality timber frames and carcasses for upholstered furniture. Working closely with the design and upholstery teams, the Frame Maker ensures each frame is built to exact specifications, structurally sound and ready for the upholstery process.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret technical drawings or design specifications to build timber frames for sofas, chairs and other upholstered products.
• Select appropriate timber and materials to produce strong, durable carcasses.
• Cut, shape and assemble wooden components using hand tools, power tools and woodworking machinery.
• Ensure all frames meet structural and quality standards before transfer to the upholstery department.
• Measure and check all frame components for accuracy and consistency.
• Liaise with Production Manger and upholsterers to ensure frames align with overall product requirements.
• Implement improvements to build processes where appropriate to improve efficiency or quality.
• Follow all company health and safety policies and procedures.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Previous experience in woodworking, carpentry or frame making (ideally in upholstery or furniture manufacturing).
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and measurements.
• Skilled in the safe use of woodworking tools and machinery.
• Good attention to detail, with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
• Strong understanding of timber types and their suitability for furniture frames.
• Ability to work to deadlines in a production environment.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.

Desirable Skills

• NVQ or equivalent qualification in Carpentry / Joinery / Furniture Making.
• Experience working in a furniture or upholstery manufacturing environment.
