Job description
The Relief Care Assistant will carry out a high standard of care and assist to meet residents’ individual needs within a caring environment.
Responsibilities
- To attend to the personal needs of residents on a daily basis, with respect and dignity for the individual.
- To carry out a high standard of care and any daily living programmes as directed by Senior Staff.
- To treat all matters relating to the Home with strict confidentiality.
- To maintain a safe environment by ensuring adherence to appropriate Health and Safety and Fire procedures.
- To keep appropriate records, as directed by Senior Staff.
- To bring any areas of concern to the attention of Senior Staff.
- To report all accidents/incidents to senior staff and record as directed.
- To be aware of emergency procedures.
- To accompany residents on outings, holidays, to attend appointments.
- To act as a named worker for designated residents, under the direction of Senior Staff.
- To assist residents to make choices and encourage independence at all times.
- To carry out day care programmes for those residents attending our day care unit as directed by the Day Care Worker.
- To attend training courses and staff meetings as directed by the Manager.
- To undertake day and night duties and assist in housekeeping tasks as required by the home.
- Any other duties as reasonable required by the Service Manager.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Evidence and understanding of and respect for the needs of people with learning and physical disabilities.
- Awareness of health and safety practices within a working environment.
- Willing to undertake relevant training e.g. induction training, or NVQ / QCF level 2.
- Proficiency in understanding, communicating and writing in English to level required by the duties of the post.
- Basic numeracy required by the duties of the post (as endorsed by appropriate qualification or use of numeracy skills in a work or home environment.
- Willing to work additional hours to fulfil the requirements of the Home.
- Must be willing to behave in a manner which respects the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.
- Willing to maintain registration with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council.
