Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse Band 7
Job description
The post holder is responsible for providing paediatric diabetes specialist nursing services within the NHSCT, including the development and delivery of services. The post holder will deliver diabetes structured patient education (SPE), insulin pump and other expert advice to children, adolescents and their families/carers to address issues relating to the management of diabetes. The post holder will take a lead advisory role in the development of age specialist SPE programmes for children and young people with diabetes, including reviewing, updating and evaluating education programmes. Responsibilities
- The post holder will have joint responsibility for overseeing Trust wide paediatric diabetes nursing services including the development and delivery of services as necessary, in conjunction with their colleagues.
- The post holder will take a lead advisory role in the continued implementation of age specific SPE programmes for children and young people with diabetes, including reviewing, updating and evaluating education programmes.
- Provide education to and assessment of children, adolescents and their carers/families considering or commencing insulin pump therapy and continued management of these patients.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Registered Nurse (Children’s) on Part 1 of the live NMC Register.
- Hold a degree in Nursing or a Health Studies qualification.
- Minimum 5 years post registration experience at Band 5 or above with 3 of those years caring for children and young people with diabetes.
- Have or be willing to undertake Specialist Practice in Diabetes including Nurse and Midwifery Prescribing Certificate (Non-Medical Precribing).
- Willingness to undertake further training/updating as required.
- Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment.
- This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
Further Information
Location: Braid Valley site. Salary: £46,148 - £52,809 per annum pro rata.
