Job description
The post holder will be a highly specialist resource providing clinical expertise in care, advice and support for patients requiring enteral feeding devices (gastrostomy and jejunal). The post holder will provide nursing leadership and work within the multi-disciplinary team in order to provide a seamless, coordinated approach to person-centred care, across the clinical pathway, and timely onward referral to other professionals and agencies as appropriate. The post holder will lead in the provision of expert advice in developing, implementing and monitoring policies, procedures and protocols, which meet national, regional and local requirements. They will proactively advance the modernisation agenda of the gastrostomy service for patients and the development of the nursing service to achieve patient centerd care. He/ she will be responsible for the management of a defined caseload of children with gastrostomy and jejunal devices, providing education, specialist nursing skills, knowledge and expertise to the family.
Responsibilities
- To act as a key worker for children and young people within the gastrostomy service offering an accessible point of contact across the patient journey.
- Within a nurse provided service, undertake a person- centred holistic approach to assess the physical, emotional, psychological, social and spiritual needs and the development of appropriate plans of care and appropriate onward referral.
- Develop, manage and lead a caseload of children with feeding issues, assessing and educating and supporting the child and family, working within the multidisciplinary team to support these children throughout treatments and surgeries delivering nur
- Lead in providing specialist assessment, diagnosis, perform tests (contrast studies, assist with radiological insertions of devices, changing of devices), management and develop treatment plans for children gastrostomy and jejunal feeding devices.

Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Be a registered nurse on Part 1 (Child) of the NMC Register.
- Minimum of 4 years post registration experience working in paediatric setting including 3 years at a band 6 or equivalent or a minimum of 5 years post registration experience working in Paediatric setting.
- Minimum of 2 years post registration experience in a Paediatric environment working with children and young people with different feeding devices.
- Evidence of post registration training and development specific to paediatric feeding devices.
Desirable Skills
- Be in possession of or working towards a degree in Nursing or other health related subject.
- Be in possession of, or willing to undertake and successfully complete an NMC recordable qualification (such as Specialist Practice).
- Be in possession of, or willing to undertake and successfully complete a postgraduate qualification in Advanced Nursing Practice (such as Health Assessment or Non-medical - Prescribing
