SEN Preschool Assistant
Job description
To work under the direction of the Preschool Leader / Manager, providing support to pupils with specials educational needs to ensure they have equal access to the curriculum and a safe, inclusive and supportive environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide support to individual pupils in line with their learning and developmental needs.
- Assist with preparation, organisation and maintenance of teaching resources and classroom materials.
- Monitor and record pupil progress and behaviour, providing feedback as required.
- Assist pupil with personal care, mobility and social integration as required.
- Contribute to the physical, social, emotional, educational development of pupil.
- Work collaboratively with the teacher to maintain a positive environment.
- Support the supervision of pupils both within and outside the classroom.
- Undertake training relevant to the post, as directed by the Manager.
- Carry out any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post as directed by the Manager.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Minimum qualification of Level 2 in Childcare, Education or equivalent.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Commitment to equality, inclusion and safeguarding of pupils.
- Demonstrable experience of working with or supporting children in an educational setting specifically those with special education needs.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with professionalism.
- Competence in the use of ICT including Microsoft Word.
- Flexible and able to use initiative when required.
Desirable Skills
- Level 3 qualification in supporting teaching and learning in schools (or equivalent).
- Experience in delivering structured learning programmes or interventions.
- Experience working with children with a range of special education needs (e.g. autism, ADHD, speech, language difficulties etc).
- Level 3 qualification in Childcare.
- Training in relevant areas such as Makaton, Team-Teach, PECS or First Aid. Ability to adapt resources and learning approaches to meet individual pupil needs.
