As a member of the Sports Services Team the postholder will be required to assist the Plant Manager in the efficient operation and control of the mechanical and electrical services, together with the maintenance of fabric, fixture and fitting of the complex and its facilities. The post holder will assume other delegated duties appropriate to the post reasonably assigned by management.
Responsibilities
- Carry out daily maintenance tasks and checks of plant rooms and public facilities to ensure all systems are in good working condition, operating satisfactorily and carry out necessary maintenance repairs.
- Ensure that the pool and water environment are correct, by taking water samples as required, and, if necessary, make adjustments to water treatment plant, including backwashing of filters.
- Monitor and maintain village changing rooms within Lagan Valley Leisure Plex. Ensure All relevant safety checks are carried out and records kept up to date.
- Implement the requirements of planned maintenance programme in the key areas of filtration, ventilation, mechanical systems and carry out routine maintenance/repairs of all equipment in the sports services facilities.
- Carry out administration duties and record keeping in line with department needs. This will include manual paper work and working with PC packages to assist role as part of daily routines.
- Where directed, assist in the monitoring of work and conduct of all casual maintenance staff, engineers, contractors and others whilst in the complex and to ensure they conform to current Health & Safety Regulations concerning safe working practice.
- To ensure the highest levels of professionalism and customer care and undertake duties in such a way as to enhance and protect the reputation and public profile of the Council.
- To carry out duties as part of a multi-disciplined team, have a flexible approach to their working arrangements and to undertake such other relevant duties as may from time to time be required.
- Ensure all Health & Safety legislation, published relevant guidelines and Council Health & Safety policies and procedures are complied with in relation to the services and activities within the facility.
- Be solely responsible for safe and efficient operation and management of plant room during evening shift and at weekends.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills

- It is essential that applicants have a minimum of: Qualifications.
- 5 GCSE’s at grade A-C, A City and Guilds, Level 2, NVQ level 2 or other equivalent relevant qualification in an mechanical, electrical or plumbing discipline.
- A minimum of two years’ post apprenticeship employment experience in the maintenance of mechanical, electrical services installations, plant and equipment.
- Experience of the maintenance and servicing of a minimum of two of the following, which should have been gained in a large plant environment.
- Air handling units and associated equipment, Industrial pumping systems, Electrical installations.
- Plumbing installations, Water filtration and water treatment systems.
- Where applicants do not hold the qualifications as outlined in above, they must demonstrate a minimum of 4 years’ experience as above.
