The post holder will be responsible for providing specialist advice to the Trust in relation to the prevention and reduction of violence and aggression. The post holder will lead in the following areas: Development, implementation and review of violence prevention and reduction policies, procedures, SOPs and plans within the Trust; Case management of violence and aggression incidents and investigations through to prosecution, including liaison with staff, line management, Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI), Public Prosecution Service (PPS), NI Courts and Tribunals etc; Review and management of incidents, data collection and the placing and monitoring of information markers associated with violence and aggression; Development of clear links with Peer Support Colleagues in order to support staff; Carrying out of violence and aggression risk assessments / audits as necessary; Work with the Media and Communications Team and Operations Directorate to ensure that incidents of violence and aggression, security related incident and breaches are publicised appropriately in accordance with guidelines so that a deterrent effect is created; Act as the Single Point of Contact for PSNI, HSENI, PPS, NI Courts and Tribunals etc; Development of linkages with the Department of Justice in order to adopt suitable Restorative Justice / Community Resolution arrangements for the Trust.
Responsibilities
- Lead on the development and implementation of violence prevention and reduction policies, procedures, SOPs and plans within the Trust in conjunction with the Risk Manager and the Chair of the Violence Prevention and Reduction Group.
- To develop and provide a professional innovative violence and aggression case management function for the Trust.
- Research and disseminate best practice in violence prevention and reduction and the management of risks associated with violence & aggression and security across the Trust.
- Ensure that recommendations from internal & external reviews are accepted, communicated and understood by staff with assurance obtained and provided to Safety, Quality, Experience and Performance Committee as required.
- Be a key member of the Trust’s Violence Prevention and Reduction Group, in order to identify and share learning from incidents and investigations, and propose changes and development Trust policies and procedures.
- Work with management, staff and Trade Unions to identify and implement initiatives for reducing levels of violence and security related incidents, and base these on evidence and staff engagement.
- Provide advice to line management on security measures relating to violence and aggression that may be employed to improve the security of that area.
- Develop partnerships with PSNI, HSENI, Courts NI and Public Prosecution Service NI etc.
- Establish effective working relationships with key governance colleagues at a regional level including Health and Social Care Board (HSCB) department of Health (DoH), RQIA and other HSC organisations.

Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- A degree and a background in crime prevention, along with a professional or postgraduate qualification in a relevant area of work, and at least 3 years’ investigative / violence prevention and reduction experience.
- OR
- Live registration on the HCPC / NMC / NISCC register, hold a relevant University Degree and a professional or postgraduate qualification in a relevant area of work
- with a minimum of 3 years’ investigative / violence prevention and reduction experience.
- OR A degree and a recognised professional health and safety qualification along with a professional or postgraduate qualification in a relevant area of work and at least 3 years’ investigative / violence prevention and reduction experience.
- AND Involvement in the reporting and management of incidents of violence & aggression / security related incidents.
- Development and delivery of training programmes.
- Undertaking safety / security related audits / inspections.
- Development of risk assessments.
- Reviewing and developing policies and procedures.
- Driving and implementing change within an organisation.
- Project management experience.
- Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment
