Job description
The Charity Officer plays a key role in the planning, development and execution of the charity’s initiatives and fundraising strategies. This role involves engaging with stakeholders, managing projects, overseeing budgets and ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards, whilst always promoting the charity’s mission and seeking to improve the lives of children in Northern Ireland who have been diagnosed with cancer. Summary of key responsibilities: - Fundraising and income generation: - Plan, coordinate and implement fundraising campaigns and events, including but not limited to the sale of charity merchandise. - Identify and apply for grants and funding opportunities. - Build and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors and partners. - Monitor and report on fundraising targets and income generation. Communications and outreach: - Promote the charity’s work through social media, websites, events and other related PR activities. - Act as a spokesperson or representative at external meetings, fundraising events or public engagements. - Lobby government and other policymakers on behalf of the charity’s cause or client group. - Develop marketing and communications materials to raise awareness. Project management - Develop and manage projects aligned with the charity’s goals. - Monitor project budgets, timelines and performance. - Liaise with internal teams, volunteers and stakeholders to ensure successful delivery. Governance and compliance: - Ensure activities comply with relevant laws, regulations and charity best practices. - Prepare reports and documentation for trustees, funding partners and regulatory bodies including but not limited to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland and the Information Commissioners’ Office. - Assist in drafting and implementing policies and procedures. Volunteer and stakeholder engagement: - Support the recruitment, training and coordination of volunteers. - Build strong relationships with community members, partners and service users. Additional information Whilst the functions of this role will often be office-based, it may also involve regular travel throughout the Northern Ireland to meet service users, attend promotional events or to carry out campaign work. It is a requirement of this role that the postholder has a valid driving licence, access to a road-worthy vehicle, with adequate motor insurance, and that they will be available to travel during the working day (weekdays and weekends) and in the evening as deemed necessary to visit local communities or partner organisations.

Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Proven ability/experience of using Microsoft/IT packages.
- Minimum GCSE Grade C (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.
- Proven track record of regularly reporting financial data to key stakeholders e.g. trustees, board of directors etc.
- Minimum of 1 year's experience, within the last five years, in a fundraising environment or equivalent commercial experience.
- Proven experience of delivery of high impact presentations to a variety of audiences.
- Events management experience.
- Working knowledge of the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland and UK GDPR legislation.
- Experience of managing social media accounts and presenting to the wider media e.g. radio, TV and newspaper interviews
- Enthusiastic, highly motivated and committed to promoting the valuable work of B Positive.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and also under own initiative.
- Empathic whilst being able to understand the importance of upholding professional standards and boundaries.
- Full driving licence and access to a road-worthy vehicle with comprehensive motor insurance for business purposes.
- Ability to travel and visit stakeholders throughout the working week (weekdays and weekends) and during the daytime and evening, as deemed necessary by the trustees.
- Satisfactory Access NI disclosure check.
Desirable Skills
- Qualification in relevant subject e.g. business administration, finance, marketing etc.
- Experience of working with volunteers or managing community outreach.
- Proven track record of raising funds to meet financial targets through fundraising initiatives e.g. donations, grant applications, sponsorships etc.
Further Information
There are two positions available: one with an 8-hour contract and another with a 16-hour contract. The trustees anticipate that the job is likely to last 18 months from the commencement date. However, the role is dependent on continued funding and should such funding be reduced or cease before that date, the post may be subject to review, modification or early termination.
