Caretaker/Building Supervisor


Job description

THE EMPLOYER IS: SHANTALLOW COMMUNITY RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION To ensure the building, facilities and grounds are clean, safe, secure and well-maintained. The caretaker is responsible for the day to day upkeep, minor repairs, supervision of contractors and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out minor maintenance and repair tasks (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, etc.).
  • Identify and report major maintenance issues to the Facilities Manager.
  • Monitor the condition of the building and arrange for repairs when needed.
  • Maintain heating, lighting, and ventilation systems as directed.
  • Oversee or perform cleaning duties to ensure all areas are tidy, hygienic, and presentable.
  • Ensure waste disposal and recycling systems are properly managed.
  • Keep external areas (paths, car parks, gardens) clear and maintained.
  • Open and close the premises, ensuring all doors, windows, and alarms are secure.
  • Respond to out-of-hours security or maintenance emergencies when required.
  • Monitor CCTV and alarm systems (if applicable).
  • Manage access control for visitors, staff, and contractors.
  • Conduct regular health and safety checks (fire alarms, emergency lighting, first aid kits, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain related documentation.
  • Report hazards, accidents, and maintenance issues promptly.
  • Supervise cleaning staff, contractors, and maintenance workers.
  • Liaise with suppliers and service providers for building maintenance.
  • Assist in coordinating building improvement projects.
  • Maintain logs for maintenance, cleaning schedules, and safety inspections.
  • Ensure all work carried out is recorded and meets company standards.
