Education Support Assistant


Job description

This is a great opportunity for someone passionate about supporting students in their learning journey. The Education Support Assistant will work closely with learners and teaching staff to provide one-to-one and small group support, helping students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential in a positive and inclusive educational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with additional learning needs to help them achieve their full potential.
  • Assist students in developing study skills, organisation, and confidence in their learning.
  • Support teaching staff in delivering inclusive learning within the classroom and during practical sessions.
  • Encourage student independence while offering guidance and reassurance as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and support provided.
  • Work collaboratively with tutors and support teams to implement individual learning plans and ensure appropriate support strategies are in place.
  • Promote a positive and supportive learning environment for all students.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • GCSE Maths & English Language grade A - C or equivalent.
  • A minimum of an NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent in an appropriate subject (e.g. Education, Care etc.)
  • Or a minimum of 12 months’ experience in one of the following: Working one to one with young people or adults in a FE and/or HE environment, Working one to one with young people or adults in a school setting, Supporting individuals with a disability,
  • and/or additional barriers to learning, Delivering study skills in an educational or training environment.
  • As part of the Recruitment & Selection process it will be necessary to carry out an Enhanced Disclosure Check through Access NI before any appointment to this post can be confirmed.

Further Information

About the role: £13.20 per hour. Monday - 10:45am - 4.00pm, Wednesday 9am - 4pm (not needed after Christmas break), Thursday 9.00am - 4.00pm, Friday 10:45am - 4.00pm. Coleraine NRC campus. Part time. Temporary role up until June 2026.
