Floating Support Officer


Job description

The Floating Support Officer will act as key worker to a caseload of clients with a wide range of complex housing issues and related complex needs (mental health/addictions/dual diagnosis/leaving care etc). The FSO will be responsible for ensuring clients receive effective and appropriate housing support that delivers tangible outcomes and promotes independent living

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement client needs assessments, risk assessments and support plans in conjunction with the client and in consultation with referral agent/family members/carers/advocates, where appropriate.
  • Monitor clients housing and support needs and review plans regularly.
  • Develop good working relationships with all statutory agencies/social landlords/private landlords, and attend all relevant meetings with these agencies to advocate on the client living and have an outcomes based approach to support.
  • Carry out crisis intervention work when required.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of the service including participating in all relevant funding inspections/ reviews of services, both internally and externally.
  • Support clients to engage with all other statutory / voluntary agencies /social networks, and refer to these services when appropriate, e.g mental health, physical health, addictions, criminal justice, statutory orders etc.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years experience providing a housing support service to a wide range of clients with complex needs (e.g. mental health/addictions/challenging behaviour/dual diagnosis/learning disability etc)
  • Knowledge of housing legislation, welfare rights, and support services, alongside your ability to work flexibly with diverse clients, carry out assessments, manage risks and boundaries, and communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.
  • Clean, current, full driving licence and access to a car.

Desirable Skills

  • 3rd Level qualification in a relevant field (e.g Social work/Housing/Mental Health/Drug and Alcohol/ Youth Work) Or 5 years experience providing a housing support service to a wide range of clients with complex needs (e.g. mental health/addictions/.
  • Familiarity with IT applications and keyboard skills
