Trainee Finance & Bookkeeping Assistant

THE EMPLOYER IS: BALLYHOLME LTD This is a development-focused, entry-level role created specifically for the JobStart Scheme, offering an individual hands-on experience in finance administration, bookkeeping, and office support within a multi-site hospitality group. The successful candidate will work closely with the finance team, gaining practical knowledge of accounting systems, payroll processes, and general office operations. The role focuses on training, mentoring, and skill-building in a professional environment, helping the participant develop core finance and administrative skills for future employment

Responsibilities

  • Support the finance team with day-to-day bookkeeping and data entry tasks.
  • Learn to use accounting software to process invoices, supplier payments, and receipts.
  • Assist with payroll preparation and maintain accurate employee and financial records.
  • Help reconcile accounts and ensure all financial documentation is correctly filed and organised.
  • Communicate with suppliers and internal departments to resolve or follow up on financial queries.
  • Ensure all activities are carried out in compliance with data protection and confidentiality standards.
  • Participate in regular training sessions and receive ongoing mentorship to develop finance, digital, and administrative skills.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Basic numeracy and attention to detail.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Ability to work accurately with data and handle confidential information responsibly.
  • Basic computer literacy, including familiarity with Microsoft Excel and other office software.
  • Strong communication skills - both written and verbal.

Desirable Skills

  • Interest in finance, business administration, or accounting.
  • Experience using spreadsheets or accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, or QuickBooks).
  • Previous office or administrative experience (including work experience or volunteering).
  • Problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities.
