THE EMPLOYER IS: HERE NI An entry-level role supporting HERe NI’s communications, social media, and community engagement activities. The postholder will help raise awareness of HERe NI’s work, promote events and projects, and support digital storytelling to increase visibility and inclusion for LGBTQIA women and their families. The Communications Officer will play a key role in supporting the promotion and visibility of HERe NI’s programmes across NI. Working closely with the Director, Training and Business Development Manager, and programme staff, the postholder will help share positive stories, celebrate diversity, and increase public awareness of HERe NI’s services.

Responsibilities

  • Support the creation and scheduling of content across HERe NI’s social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn).
  • Assist with maintaining and updating the HERe NI website and newsletter.
  • Help promote key projects such as the Young Women’s Mental Health Project, Older Women’s Programme, and family support.
  • Produce simple graphics, photos, and short videos to share positive stories from participants and partners.
  • Provide administrative support to the communications and outreach functions.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create clear, engaging content for different audiences.
  • Good digital and social media skills, including experience using platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, X, and LinkedIn.
  • Basic IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and confidence using email, shared drives, and online tools.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Creative thinking and attention to detail, particularly when producing visual or digital content.
  • Familiarity with graphic design or content creation tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Express, or similar).
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills through mentoring and training opportunities.
  • Commitment to equality, inclusion, and confidentiality, with respect for HERe NI’s values and the diverse LGBTQIA community.
  • Team player who can also work independently with guidance and support.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in communications, marketing, or community engagement, whether voluntary, academic, or professional.
  • Understanding of LGBTQIA issues and enthusiasm for equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Experience using website editing tools or newsletters (e.g. WordPress, Mailchimp, etc.).
  • Confidence in supporting events - such as taking photos, live-posting on social media, or helping with logistics.
  • Interest in storytelling, photography, or short video content creation.
  • Previous experience (paid or voluntary) in the community or voluntary sector.

The Employer is: HERE NI JobStart Opportunity - Working Hours Information. Standard Hours: up to 25 hours per week. Flexible/Reduced Hours: May be available upon approval by a Work Coach.
