Van Driver / Retail Assistant
Job description
THE EMPLOYER IS: THE LINK FAMILY AND COMMUNITY CENTRE / THE LINK CHARITY SHOP. We are seeking an individual to join our team as a Van Driver / Retail Assistant. This dual role involves driving a Luton van to collect and deliver furniture, assisting with basic assembly, and providing excellent customer service both on the road and in the shop. You will also be responsible for till operation, sorting donations, merchandising stock, cash handling, opening/closing the shop and helping to maintain a tidy and welcoming shop environment.
Responsibilities
- Driving a Luton Van: Safely operate a Luton van for the collection and delivery of furniture to and from customers' homes.
- Furniture Handling: Lift and assemble furniture as required for deliveries.
- Paperwork and Vehicle Maintenance: Ensure all necessary paperwork is updated, and the van is kept clean and tidy.
- Customer Service: Provide professional and courteous service to all customers, both during deliveries and in the shop.
- Till Operation and Cash Handling: Accurately handle cash transactions and operate the till.
- Shop Operations: Assist with opening and closing the shop, ensuring it is secure and ready for customers.
- Team Work: Work effectively as part of a team to achieve shop goals and maintain a positive work environment.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Full, UK driving licence (including entitlement to drive a 3.5 tonne vehicle). Max 6 points.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to perform manual handling and lifting tasks safely.
- Able to demonstrate professionalism when dealing with the public.
- Flexibility to assist with retail or collection tasks as needed.
Desirable Skills
- Previous experience in retail, customer service, or delivery work.
- Knowledge of charity retail operations.
- Basic maintenance knowledge for vehicles.
- Knowledge of Ards Peninsula - for deliveries

Flexible/Reduced Hours: May be available upon approval by a Work Coach. Additional Hours: The employer may offer extra hours depending on availability.
