Community Centre Assistant (Admin, Bookings & Youth Support)


Job description

THE EMPLOYER IS: MILLBURN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT LTD This new role has been created specifically for the JobStart Scheme to support the day-to-day running of Millburn Community Centre. The Community Centre Assistant will work as part of a small, friendly team to help with administration, room bookings, IT support, social media updates, and youth club activities. The post offers an excellent opportunity to develop practical office, digital, and communication skills in a community-focused environment. No previous experience is required. Full on the job training will be provided. The participant will receive mentoring and supervision from experienced community staff, with opportunities to develop skills in administration, customer service, digital communication, and youth engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with general administrative duties, including filing, data entry, photocopying, and record-keeping.
  • Manage and update room and event bookings for groups and community activities.
  • Help maintain and update the centre’s social media platforms and website, sharing news, events, and photos.
  • Provide front desk and reception support, welcoming visitors and responding to public enquiries in person, by phone, or email.
  • Assist with planning and supporting youth programmes and community events, helping to set up rooms and prepare materials.
  • Support the wider team with communications, promotional materials, and general project coordination.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when dealing with community members and service users.
  • Follow all organisational policies, including safeguarding, data protection, and health & safety.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Good communication skills and a friendly manner.
  • Basic IT skills (email, word processing, and internet use).
  • Ability to organise tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from staff.

Desirable Skills

  • Confidence using social media (e.g., Facebook, Instagram) to share updates and promote activities.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
  • Creative skills such as writing short posts, taking photos, or creating posters.
  • Experience working or volunteering with the public or youth groups.
  • Understanding of community projects or local issues.
