Supermarket Assistants work in various areas of Newell Stores, including the tills, shop floor, fruit & veg section, and the off-licence. Their role involves serving customers and offering helpful advice. The most important part of the job is assisting customers in whatever way they need - whether that's giving advice or helping a customer find what they need.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome and assist customers around the store, helping them find whatever they are looking for or redirect their queries as appropriate.
  • Answer customers’ questions about products on display.
  • Operate equipment and tills in your department as trained.
  • Pack away all deliveries as they arrive on site - freshness must remain a priority.
  • Rotating stock as required.
  • Work with fellow team members to keep the supermarket clean and tidy, with a priority on health and safety.
  • Make sure that the shelves/counters/cabinets are well stocked (ensuring your stock orders account for possible out of stock periods) and that items are always attractively displayed.
  • Being knowledgeable regarding Company policies and procedures.
  • When considered necessary or appropriate, you are liable to transfer to or undertake other duties, within competence and within reason, in order to meet fluctuations or priorities in work demands.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Customer service skills.
  • Basic numeracy.
  • Good communication skills, especially with customers, suppliers and co-workers.
  • The ability to complete essential training and follow policies and procedures.
