We have an exciting opportunity for an Employment Officer to join our Employment & Personal Development team covering the South & South Eastern locality for temporary cover (37.5 hours per week) contract until January 2026 end. This role will be a hybrid approach of working from home/office and working out in the community at meetings. As an Employment Officer, you will work as part of a team to support people with a learning disability to access a range of employment and training opportunities, to develop their skills and confidence and to progress towards their employment goals and aspirations. You will have the ability to generate a range of high quality, appropriate placements and paid employment opportunities, through engagement with employers and effective promotion of Mencap services. This role requires an enthusiastic, driven and self-motivated individual. You will have excellent time management and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively within a team. You will be able to demonstrate effective negotiation and mediation skills. More information can be found in the Job Description.
Responsibilities
- The Employment Officer will be responsible for the management of their time and resources to deliver at all times, a person centred service, supporting all individuals’ progression to agreed related employment or training goals.
- The Employment Officer will have an individual caseload responsibility consistent with contracted hours and support needs of those referred to them.
- Work in line with Mencap’s Values
- The role requires the ability to travel to meetings, events and training, as well as to other Mencap locations when required. On occasions, staff may be required to work outside normal office hours.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Evidence of working effectively within a team
- Evidence of good communication skills, including ICT
- Experience of supporting people to develop new/existing skills
- Have the ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to travel in accordance with the needs of the post
Desirable Skills
- Awareness of the issues facing people with a learning disability and their families throughout their lives
- Understanding of barriers to employment for people with a learning disability
- Experience of effective negotiation and mediation
