The Sensory Room Coordinator plays a vital role in creating an inclusive, supportive environment that meets the sensory needs of individuals within the community. The coordinator oversees the daily operation of the sensory room, ensuring it is accessible, safe, and welcoming for people of all ages and abilities. Working in partnership with groups, families, and service providers, the coordinator develops and delivers engaging sensory programs and activities that promote emotional well-being, social connection, and personal development. The role focuses on making the sensory room a valued community resource that encourages participation, inclusion, and a sense of belonging. Responsibilities
- Support guests to use the sensory room, tailoring equipment to meet their needs, ensuring they have the best possible experience
- Help develop information and guides to support guests prepare for sessions and get the most out of their visit
- Contribute to marketing activities for the sensory room including creating content for social media
- Help identify and communicate with parents, carers, groups, charities and schools to raise awareness of the sensory service and attract guests
- Support in the development, preparation, and delivery of facilitated sensory sessions
- Respond to sensory related enquiries
- Keep up to date on sensory related developments, activities, and approaches that can be used to support guests
- Ensure all equipment and resources are used in line with operating procedures, health and safety requirements, and maintained to a high standard, supervising use and storing equipment appropriately when not in use
- Clean and tidy the Sensory Room in line with daily, weekly and monthly requirements, scheduling routine equipment checks as required
- Respect each guest’s right to privacy and ensure that their dignity is always maintained, adhering to GDPR policies
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, adhering to all specified safeguarding procedures.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the achievement of the organisation’s aims and objectives.

Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- NVQ Level 2 qualification in a relevant discipline such as Educational Support, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Early Years, Child Development.
- Minimum of 1 year experience working with children and/or adults with additional needs, either in a paid or voluntary capacity.
- Confidence in promoting and marketing the centre and a full, clean driving licence and access to vehicle to travel to outreach centres.
- Ability to work independently, using own initiative.
- Ability to work directly with both individuals and groups.
- Proficient in use of Windows software and ability to carry our basic administrative duties in line with the role.
Desirable Skills
- Experience of working in a sensory room or environment and operating sensory room equipment and computer-based technology
- First Aid at Work for children and/or adults
