Early Years Assistant
Job description
THE EMPLOYER IS: NAÍSCOIL NA DEIRGE. This position involves working with pre-school children aged between 2-10 months and 4 years, supporting their development through safe, creative, and age-appropriate play opportunities. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and facilitating engaging activities, assisting with the setup and layout of resources before each session, and ensuring everything is tidied away afterwards. Maintaining high hygiene standards through general cleaning duties is essential, as is contributing to the overall safety and well-being of the children. The role also includes supporting the intimate care needs of children as required, while upholding strict confidentiality at all times.
Responsibilities
- Help prepare and fully set out the playroom before the children arrive and tidy it up after the children leave.
- Help provide and take part in all Naíscoil activities.
- Attend staff meetings and help prepare a forward plan for the Naíscoil.
- Take part in special events, outings and visits.
- Encourage parental involvement.
- Listen to, encourage, enable, stimulate and ensure the safe keeping of the children.
- Attend relevant evening meetings and courses as directed by the Leader or committee. Course fees will be met by the management for approved training.
- Advise the Leader of any matter requiring attention, such as concerns about a child or equipment needing repaired or replaced.
- Keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff which is learnt as part of the job.
- Fully participate in Fundraising activities for the Naíscoil.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- L2 or above in Childcare.
- Ability to identify problems and refer to the Leader in Charge.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to relate well to children and their parents.
- Ability to lift children when required.
- Willingness to attend evening meeting and training.
- Ability to contribute to planning and delivery of curriculum.
- An understanding of child development and the importance of parental involvement.

The Employer is: NAÍSCOIL NA DEIRGE. JobStart Opportunity - Working Hours Information. Standard Hours: up to 25 hours per week. Flexible/Reduced Hours: May be available upon approval by a Work Coach. Additional Hours: The employer may offer extra hours depending on availability. This should be discussed directly with the employer before starting employment.
