Job description

NMCT provides affordable and accessible community transport through three key schemes: Dial A Lift a demand responsive service for individual members living in rural areas who have difficulty accessing public or private transport. Social Car Scheme volunteer drivers use their own cars to take members to appointments, sometimes outside the operational area. Group Hire Service for community and voluntary groups whose activities benefit the community within the operational area. Provide Dial A Lift and Group Transport services for individual and group members as required. Assist passengers, including those with physical or mental disabilities, as appropriate. Ensure NMCT safety standards are maintained at all times and that passengers travel safely, comfortably, and courteously. Promote and maintain good passenger behaviour on vehicles. Operate vehicle lifts and ramps as required, ensuring that wheelchairs are correctly and securely clamped. Administer basic first aid where necessary and ensure any injured passengers receive prompt medical attention. Submit all relevant incident forms to the Transport Manager. Strive to adhere to scheduled timings as far as possible. Keep accurate trip records using the log sheets provided and return them to the administration staff. Complete daily vehicle check sheets and return them to the office. Report any vehicle damage or defects to the Manager or Office Staff immediately. Wash and clean the vehicle as required, maintaining both interior and exterior cleanliness. Refuel vehicles using the designated fuel card at approved fuel stations; sign for fuel and submit receipts to the office. Attend relevant NMCT training courses to develop knowledge and skills. Complete MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) and Passenger Assistance training. Maintain a valid driving licence of the appropriate category and report any driving offences to the Manager without delay. Record and report any accidents, mishaps, or traffic offences, regardless of severity, to the Manager as soon as reasonably possible. Report any passenger concerns or complaints to Administration Staff. Comply fully with all NMCT Policies and Procedures. Maintain high standards of Health & Safety awareness at all times. Undertake any additional duties or responsibilities necessary to support NMCT’s objectives. Demonstrate flexibility as part of a small, dedicated team. Uphold NMCT’s ethics, values, and commitment to community service.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, courteous Dial-A-Lift and Group Transport services.
  • Assist passengers, ensure safety, report incidents, maintain vehicles, complete records, follow NMCT policies, attend training, uphold standards and support NMCT’s community-focused.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Full, clean driving licence with D1 entitlement.
  • Valid CPC licence.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ driving experience.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience using passenger lifts and applying safety measures.
  • Experience driving minibuses or large vans.
  • Full Category D or D1 licence or MiDAS training certificate.
