Horticulture Project Assistant


Job description

THE EMPLOYER IS: NBWISP NBWISP is a community-based health support charity located in North Belfast. We provide health and wellbeing, education, counselling, support and community development services to address underlying need. As a Horticulture Project Assistant you will work in an operational capacity, supporting the project delivery, effective promotion, reporting and administrative functions of the team. Working closely with the project coordinators to support the availability and accessibility of local services and opportunities. This role plays an important role in underpinning the work of the team through the delivery of grass roots projects and the provision of wrap-around communications, reporting and administrative functions.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the planning, implementation, and monitoring of various horticultural projects.
  • Assisting with facilitation of classes/workshops for children and adults.
  • Support project coordinators to develop and deliver inspiring programmes.
  • Performing physical tasks such as digging, planting, pruning, potting, feeding, and transplanting plants.
  • Work collaboratively to support Project Manager and other team members to ensure that NBWISP can effectively share best practice and work in partnership to deliver outstanding services that are consistently meeting the needs of clients.
  • Assisting with correspondence, managing deadlines, and helping to prepare project documentation.
  • Assist with information gathering/sharing to track outcomes & success of the project.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • GCSE English & Maths (or equivalent).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Organisational skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexibly - it is important to be able to respond to the needs of the group and adapt or change plans accordingly.

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of the community and voluntary sector in Northern Ireland.
  • Previous experience in community work.
  • An observant, responsive and sympathetic nature.
  • A positive, energetic and enthusiastic outlook.
