Service Manager
Job description
Morning Star House is recruiting for a proven leader to join our team as Service Manager, delivering high-quality, housing-related support to men experiencing homelessness in Belfast. The successful candidate will lead a dedicated team of Support Workers, Housing Workers, and Back Office staff, ensuring the delivery of effective, compassionate, and outcome-focused services. The Service Manager will play a key leadership role, providing operational oversight, promoting teamwork and professional development, and reporting directly to the Board of Trustees on a monthly basis. Responsibilities
- Hold full operational responsibility for the delivery, performance and continuous improvement of the service including operational excellence and achievement of KPI's that align with the remit and vision of Morning Star House
- To provide day-to-day operational leadership for the staff team including the supervision and support to Deputy Service Manager and other staff
- Implement probation and supervision frameworks
- To be responsible for the recruitment and selection of staff and locum staff
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- A third level qualification in a subject which can be shown to be relevant to the post AND two years relevant experience OR HND in a relevant subject AND 3 years relevant experience, and, Minimum of 1 years’ experience in supervising staff
- An ability to coach and mentor support staff to ensure that they feel empowered to complete tasks related to their role
- An ability to use initiative, apply sound decision-making skills including the ability to manage incidents calmly and respond in a professional manner to situations
- An ability to manage client with complex needs and challenging behaviours
- An ability to liaise effectively with other service providers within the sector and represent the organisation at a management level
- An ability to compile and present written and statistical reports
- An understanding of the Supporting People programmes and working within the confines of this relating to Housing Related Support
- Knowledge of statutory and voluntary sector organisations and resources that would be available and accessible to clients
- An understanding of the challenges of managing accommodation-based services
- An ability to work as part of a flexible rota
- Willingness to work within the ethos of the Legion of Mary and Morning Star House
- Willingness and ability to manage and partake in Management On-Call Rota
Desirable Skills
- Experience of Change Management within an organisation
- Experience of working with clients with complex needs
