BHSCT Clinical Educator, Band 7


Job description

The post holder, in conjunction with the Ward Sisters/Charge Nurses, will be responsible for facilitating education and practice development within the Fracture/Orthopaedic wards. He/she will collaborate with key individuals, including the Clinical Co-ordinator/Service Manager, Nursing Development Lead, Ward/Department Managers & Divisional nurse. The post holder will play a key role in facilitating work based learning focused on enabling staff to work in a person centred approach. He/she will maintain a daily presence in the ward areas to support learning and development of nursing staff, in particular those new to their roles including International Nurses. He/she will also play a key role in identifying education and development needs and meeting these in innovative ways.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an up to date knowledge base ensuring professional, academic, and clinical credibility. This will involve working and role modelling as a practitioner in the unit.
  • Participate in and support nursing staff's involvement in audit activities, relation to education.
  • Ensure regular evaluation of effectiveness of own role.
  • Provide leadership that facilitates professional decision making and effective team working.
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise by role modelling person centred practice to others.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Registered Adult Nurse Part I Level 1 of NMC Register.
  • Have 5 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse on Registered Adult Nurse Part I Level 1 of NMC Register and have experience for at least three years’ in a Fracture/Orthopaedic care setting.
  • Must have completed, be currently undertaking or be willing to commence within 1 year of employment the Orthopaedic and Trauma nursing course short course (1 year).
  • Must be committed to establishing an effective learning environment within the wards and Departments of the Fracture/Orthopaedic service.

Desirable Skills

  • Recognised teaching module/certificate.
  • Have a degree relating to Nursing Practice/Health care.
  • IT skills.
