Family Support Officer

THE EMPLOYER IS: NEURODIVERSITY UK This is a challenging and varied role, with the Family Support Officer working to make a positive impact on the lives of autistic children, young people and their families. Offering practical help and emotional support to families experiencing short or long-term difficulties by developing measurable goals and helping the whole family to acquire the skills necessary to achieve them. The role will involve coaching, mentoring and motivating families to enable them to support the needs of their autistic child or young person.

Responsibilities

  • Collecting family history.
  • Understanding behaviours and discussing any issues within the home.
  • Offering support to work through issues.
  • Give advice on what reasonable adjustments can be made in the event someone is burnt out from their employment.
  • Refer people to other services within the charity, i.e. MTD, Employability, Education.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Excellent time keeping.
  • Communication skills.
  • Organisational skills.
  • Documentation.
  • Conflict resolution experience.

Desirable Skills

  • Using IT programmes.
  • Report writing.
  • Appointment making.
