Job description

Choice is seeking to appoint a Community Organiser, this person will fully participate in and contribute to the Common Ground project towards supporting stronger, safer and more stable communities through the promotion of understanding, mutual respect and community participation.

Responsibilities

• Initiating and delivering activities which will improve inter-community relationships and enhance understanding of different cultures and backgrounds
• Supporting community capacity building, including training of existing and new community leaders
• Working as part of a team to deliver the Common Ground Project workplan and targets
• Measuring and evaluating the progress of work undertaken and regularly reporting results to Line Manager and to the Project Lead Partner

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Experience of managing monitoring & budgets in accordance with policies, procedures and external funding requirements
• Knowledge of best practice in community development and empowerment
• Able to travel to meet the operational requirements of the post without reliance on public transport

Desirable Skills

• Demonstrate a track record in negotiating effectively with stakeholders, to ensure successful partnerships and positive outcomes.
• Knowledge and understanding of people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Location: Ards and North Down Borough Council, Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council, and parts of Belfast.
