THE EMPLOYER IS: ACREWOOD DAYCARE CIC At Acrewood Daycare we value an educational and child-centered approach. Our daycare operates across 3 main play rooms (0-2, 2-3, 3-5) with a small SEN cohort. As a childcare assistant, your key role is to support the room leader and the operation of the room(s) - this may look like; helping to set up or tidy activities, participate in daily/weekly planning and assisting with mealtimes and intimate care. We are looking for someone with a passion for working with children and helping them achieve their next steps. The ideal person would be adaptable in a busy environment, shows patience and understanding towards children and has a desire to learn and grow their own foundation of skills. Our current cohort are very energetic and creative - so you must be willing to get stuck in and make a wonderful mess! We are also looking to expand our business in the coming months, so we are looking for nurturing applicants who can help settle in our new children/cohort. Enhanced Access NI and social services checks are required before any appointment can be confirmed. Opportunities for training will be provided e.g. a chance to gain a childcare qualification e.g. level 2/3.

Responsibilities

  • Shadow a qualified assistant at all times.
  • Assist the room leader/assistants for the day to day running of the play room.
  • Assist the room leader/assistants in safeguarding, performing an important role caring for children (training will be given).
  • Assist the room leader/assistants in maintaining a high quality of care and provide a stimulating environment.
  • Be creative and able to help with new ideas and use a range of strategies to continually improve practice and support the room leader, assistants and management of Acrewood Daycare.
  • Help with activities throughout the day such as art, physical, music, sensory etc.
  • Learning and assisting with daily care routines (feeding, dressing, toileting, nap time).
  • Learn to lead small group or one-on-one activities under teacher direction.
  • Training to recognise and report signs of illness or abuse.
  • Learn how to plan and implement a child-led curriculum.
  • Learn how to identify risks in learning activities and complete risk assessments.
  • Learn how to engage with and support SEN children (training offered).
  • Learn how to engage with and support children with speech and language difficulties (training offered).

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Performs well in a busy and loud environment.
  • Creative and imaginative, so you can engage with the children on their level.

Desirable Skills

  • Being able to speak another language is advantageous.
  • Someone who is bubbly and isn't afraid to get stuck in.
  • Patient, understanding and calm in both yourself and your impact on your environment.
