Cleaner/Caretaker
Job description
THE EMPLOYER IS: GREATER SHANTALLOW AREA PARTNERSHIP (GSAP) The Cleaner/Caretaker will play an active role in helping the Greater Shantallow Area Partnership provide caretaking and cleaning support to 2 community outreach centres in Skeoge (Skeoge Community Hub & Glenabbey Community Hub) and GSAP's main office at the Community Building Northside, being responsible for maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming environment across the three sites. The participant will carry out cleaning, basic maintenance, and caretaking duties to ensure that the facilities are secure, and fit for use for service users, and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Clean & sanitise all areas of the buildings - offices, toilets, kitchens, corridors and common areas. Emptying bins and ensuring waste is disposed of appropriately.
- Refill supplies - such as soap, paper towels, and cleaning supplies.
- Open / close premises as required, ensuring security of building and its contents.
- Set up rooms (including IT / Video Conferencing facilities) for meetings / activities / community activities as required.
- Ensure outdoor areas (including garden areas) are kept clean and safe.
- Report faults / damage / or health & safety issues / concerns to the Centre Managers.
- Moving items of furniture and equipment as required.
- Undertaking any other general house-keeping duties.
- Participate in training as directed by the GSAP Manager / Skeoge Centre Manager.
- Attend monthly supervision sessions and staff/team meetings.
- Undertake any other duties relevant to the role, and as directed by the Centre Managers.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Knowledge of general cleaning methods (floors, kitchens, toilets, meeting rooms, halls), using cleaning chemicals safely. Experience of using and maintaining cleaning equipment such as buffers, vacuum cleaners, and floor scrubbers.
- Experience of maintaining high hygiene standards in public areas.
- Experience of carrying out basic repairs.
- Experience of setting up rooms for community activities.
- Good communication skills for liaising with centre managers & users.
- Teamworking - supporting colleagues and community users as needed.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Flexible - willing to work evenings or weekends for events.
Desirable Skills
- Experience of health and safety policies and emergency procedures (Fist aid in the Workplace, Manual Handling and Fire Safety).
- Experience of operating alarms, and security systems.
- Experience of conducting risk assessments where appropriate.
- Experience of ensuring waste disposal and recycling.
- Experience of keeping cleaning and maintenance records up to date.
- Experience of monitoring stock levels and ordering cleaning materials.
- Experience of ground maintenance.
- Experience of using specialists cleaning equipment/products.
- Friendly, helpful, and approachable attitude towards staff, volunteers, and visitors.
- Attention to detail and pride in maintaining a welcoming community environmen
