Job description

THE EMPLOYER IS: NEWRY AND MOURNE COMMUNITY TRASNPORT Provide Dial-A-Lift and Group Transport services for both individual and group members as required. Assist passengers, including those with physical or mental disabilities, ensuring their safety, comfort, and dignity at all times. Drive any allocated vehicle carefully and lawfully, prioritising the safety and comfort of passengers as well as the protection of equipment. Operate vehicle lifts and ramps as necessary, ensuring that wheelchairs are correctly and securely fastened. Strive to keep to scheduled timings wherever possible, complete daily vehicle check sheets and return them to the office, and maintain accurate trip records using the Driver App provided, submitting these to the administration staff. Fully comply with all NMCT policies and procedures, promoting and maintaining good passenger conduct on board. Complete MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) and Passenger Assistance training as required.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and maintain good passenger behaviour on vehicles.
  • Administer basic first aid where necessary and ensure any injured passengers receive prompt medical attention. Submit all relevant incident forms to the Transport Manager.
  • Report any vehicle damage or defects to the Manager or Office Staff immediately.
  • Wash and clean the vehicle as required, maintaining both interior and exterior cleanliness.
  • Refuel vehicles using the designated fuel card at approved fuel stations; sign for fuel and submit receipts to the office.
  • Attend relevant NMCT training courses to develop knowledge and skills.
  • Maintain a valid driving licence of the appropriate category and report any driving offences to the Manager without delay.
  • Record and report any accidents, mishaps, or traffic offences, regardless of severity, to the Manager as soon as reasonably possible.
  • Report any passenger concerns or complaints to administration staff.
  • Maintain high standards of Health & Safety awareness at all times.
  • Undertake any additional duties or responsibilities necessary to support NMCT’s objectives.
  • Demonstrate flexibility as part of a small, dedicated team.
  • Uphold NMCT’s ethics, values, and commitment to community service.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Full, clean driving licence with D1 entitlement.
  • Valid CPC licence.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ driving experience.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience using passenger lifts and applying safety measures.
  • Experience driving minibuses or large vans.
  • First aid.
  • Safeguarding.
