Job description

The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs, the implementation and evaluation of local and regional Coronary Care adult patients, in both elective and emergency situations. The post holder is required to provide leadership and clinical expertise within the regional Coronary Care Unit including providing specialist advice to the nursing and multi-disciplinary team in relation to cardiac services. The post holder is professionally accountable for the appropriate activation of the 24 hour PPCI service to safeguard optimum patient care and delivery of the service. The post holder is required to collate a comprehensive patient history. From the information the post holder will determine if the patient meets PPCI criteria. The post holder is responsible for making the necessary arrangements to facilitate safe patient transfer and repatriation where appropriate. Where the patient does not meet the PPCI criteria the post holder is expected to advise an appropriate course of action. The post holder is required to use their specialist knowledge and skills to care for patients outside of the coronary care setting. This includes responsibility for their role in the Cardiac Arrest Team and supporting Cath Lab staff on an ongoing basis. Responsibilities

• Take charge of emergency bleep for all cardiac emergencies within the Royal Hospital site. Manage and take the lead in a cardiac arrest situation in caring for acutely ill patients with other members of the MDT.
• Carry out clinical audit with the aim of improving service, for example, audit of cardiac arrest and PPCI etc
• To support other wards and specialties during medical emergencies.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Registered Nurse on Part 1 (Adult) of the NMC register.
• Must have 3 years recent post registration experience in Coronary Care or the equivalent of three years recent acute Cardiology experience
