Groundskeeping Apprentice
Job description
THE EMPLOYER IS: NORTH WEST CRICKET UNION To assist the North West Cricket Union’s Grounds Team in the preparation and maintenance of cricket facilities across the region. This role offers hands-on experience in sports turf management, with opportunities to develop practical skills in ground preparation, equipment use, and facility upkeep.
Responsibilities
- Support the preparation and maintenance of cricket pitches and outfields.
- Assist with mowing, rolling, marking, and general turf care under supervision.
- Help maintain machinery and equipment in a clean, safe working condition.
- Carry out basic maintenance and cleaning of grounds and surrounding areas.
- Set up and take down match and training equipment as required.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Interest in outdoor, hands-on work or sports facility maintenance.
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow safety procedures.
- Prepared to work in varying weather conditions.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- Willingness to learn and undertake training as required.
Desirable Skills
- Previous experience in groundskeeping, gardening, or maintenance.
- Basic mechanical or equipment handling knowledge.
- UK driving licence and access to transport.
- Interest in pursuing a career in sports turf management.
- GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent qualification/experience).

The Employer is: NORTH WEST CRICKET UNION JobStart Opportunity - Working Hours Information. Standard Hours: up to 25 hours per week. Flexible/Reduced Hours: May be available upon approval by a Work Coach. Additional Hours: The employer may offer extra hours depending on availability.
