Job description
THE EMPLOYER IS: WILLOWBANK LTD The role consists of working with adults with physical disabilities and sensory impairments. You will be required to work as part of a team, under the supervision of management in the provision of individual and group programs of care, designed to maximise the potential of each individual. Consistent with the aims of Willowbank the Support Worker will be involved in a range of activities including organising and facilitating activities, direct supervision, personal care tasks, and the motivation of people with physical disabilities and or sensory impairments.
Responsibilities
- Ensure Health & Safety policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.
- Assist service users with personal care needs and toileting. These tasks require great sensitivity and respect for the dignity of the person.
- Assist with organised activities for service users, requiring good motivational skills. Liaise with line management to provide appropriate activities in line with Willowbanks stated objective of 'Maximising Potential'.
- Assist with the serving of refreshments / lunches and associated duties i.e. setting and cleaning of tables etc.
- Assist service users who require help cutting or eating their food. Presentation of food should be appropriate to users expressed need / preference.
- Assist with the maintenance of a clean and safe working environment.
- Keep up to date records relevant to their designated roles. These will be provided by management.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and adapt to different needs (e.g., using simple language, non-verbal cues, or assistive technology). Active listening to understand the person’s preferences and concerns.
- Understanding the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities. Showing patience and respect for their dignity and independence.
- Quickly assessing situations and finding practical solutions. Handling unexpected challenges calmly.
- Adjusting to different environments, routines, and individual needs. Being flexible when plans change.
- Ability to assist with mobility or personal care when required. Managing stress and maintaining a positive attitude.
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of physical, intellectual, and sensory disabilities. Awareness of assistive devices and accessibility requirements.
- First aid and basic medical knowledge. Understanding safeguarding principles and risk assessment.
- Helping with hygiene, dressing, and feeding when needed. Maintaining dignity during personal care.
- Documenting care plans and progress accurately. Communicating effectively with healthcare professionals and family.
