THE EMPLOYER IS: NATIONAL MUSEUM NI. National Museums NI is a leading cultural institution and is responsible for ensuring that its significant collection is developed, cared for and accessible to the widest possible audience. We care for, develop and provide access to the National Collection of 1.4 million objects which are multidisciplinary, diverse and span all time periods, referencing Northern Ireland within and to the wider world. The post holder will form part of a dedicated Buildings & Estates Maintenance Team, responsible for ensuring the efficient maintenance, upkeep and presentation of the building and surrounding grounds of the Ulster Museum.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a general buildings and estates maintenance service.
  • Assist other departments with logistical tasks, including moving furniture around the Museum, delivering or collecting items, assisting at events and other general labouring duties as required.
  • Undertake the set-up and breakdown of spaces for events and other functions as required.
  • Assist in the minor maintenance of car park, walkways and grounds including removal of leaves, clearing of snow and salting.
  • Be committed to good health and safety and access practice and ensure familiarity with National Museums NI’s health and safety policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Be courteous and polite at all times when in contact with the visiting public.
  • Carry out weekend and public holiday working as part of a rota and as required for events and other operational requirements.
  • Carry out other duties as required by the Museum, consistent with the grade and responsibilities of the post.
  • Undertake appropriate training and personal development programmes to enhance personal effectiveness.
  • Ensure the delivery of National Museums NI’s Vision, Mission and Values.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Experience of working within a team, and as an individual within a team, demonstrating a high level of self-motivation.
  • Availability to work flexible hours within a rota system including weekends, evenings and bank holidays.

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience in grounds maintenance, general labouring or buildings maintenance.
  • A general knowledge of Health and Safety procedures and issues.
  • Enthusiasm and a passion for delivering exceptional customer service to a wide and diverse range of people.
