Physical Security Policy Manager (DP)
Job description
The Physical Security Manager will report to a Grade 7 within Digital Security & Engagement and ensure the Physical Security policies and security controls employed remain appropriate and proportionate to the assessed risks and are responsive and adaptable to the changing threat environment, business requirements and central government policies. They will support the Senior Management Team (SMT) as the primary point of contact on Physical Security issues with key stakeholders, including external parties, and actively develop strong working relationships in relation to Physical Security. The postholder is expected to champion learning, development and accreditation, cultivate talent and foster an inclusive, diverse and motivated workforce. They need to understand, explain and present complex ideas to audiences at all levels in a persuasive and convincing manner.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the development, management and co-ordination of physical security policy and guidance to NICS Departments.
- Developing risk management plans, coordinating risk assessments and extracting insights to develop and monitor risk mitigations.
- Aligning with relevant regulation, policy and standards to provide proportional, tailored, practical advice, and advise on any residual risk.
- Monitoring the efficiency and effectiveness of the Physical Security processes across the NICS and make recommendations for continual improvement.
- Maintaining awareness of current and emerging technologies and their impact on existing security practices.
- Acting as the central point of contact for other agencies (e.g. Cabinet Office, NIO, PSNI) in relation to physical security.
- Supporting the governance structures in relation to physical security to ensure a coordinated and consistent approach across the NICS.
- Providing physical security advice including liaison with NICS HR in relation to protective security advice.
- Collaborating with the National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) to deliver approved training to NICS staff.
- Driving professional development by working with Government Security Function to set and drive continuous learning standards.
- Collaborating with colleagues in the PSNI and Government Security Profession and acting as a catalyst for excellence in providing Physical Security services.
- Representing NICS in cross-UK government physical security forums.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience providing a lead physical security role in a complex and challenging environment.
- A minimum of 3 years’ developing risk management and mitigation plans for Physical Security risks in a complex and challenging environment.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience of effective leadership, setting strategic direction and managing resources to successfully deliver business objectives in a complex and challenging environment.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience of building constructive, positive and collaborative partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior management, to effectively deliver significant organisational objectives.
