Maintenance/Caretaker Support


Job description

THE EMPLOYER IS: NEWRY STREET UNITE The Maintenance /Caretaker support worker will support centre staff and volunteer management committee to deliver services to children, young people and families who use Newry Street Unite Community Centre. The role will involve assisting with ensuring the building and its surrounds are available and ready for use.

Responsibilities

  • Repairing small items such as refixing a toilet roll holder.
  • Oiling the locks in the winter months.
  • Preparing for and painting smaller areas.
  • Sweeping up leaves and grass cutting when required seasonally.
  • Litter picking.
  • Assisting with setting up and putting away chairs and tables as required for events.
  • Putting out and taking in bins.
  • Any other reasonable related tasks to fulfil that the building and its environments are ready and accessible for use.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Candidates must be flexible in their approach to working hours to support the centre’s schedule.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to use small hand tools.
  • Ability to use outdoor garden tools including lawn mower and strimmer.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Willingness to attend training vital to the role as well as meetings.

Desirable Skills

  • Carpentry and/or painting skills.
  • Training in Child Protection, Basic Food Hygiene and/or First Aid.
  • Familiarity with record keeping for safety checks.
