Community Centre Operative
Job description
THE EMPLOYER IS: FEENY COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION This 25-hour role is based at Feeny Community Centre, where the post holder will support the team in all aspects of the Centre’s daily operations. Duties will include assisting with programme delivery, engaging with Centre users, and helping maintain an efficient and welcoming environment. During this 6-month placement, the successful applicant will develop valuable experience in Community Centre operations and management, planning and coordinating programmes and events, administrative and organisational skills, basic budgeting and financial processes, funding research and application support. The role may require evening and occasional weekend work. Satisfactory Access NI checks required.
Responsibilities
- Support the Centre Manager with the day-to-day operations of the Community Centre.
- Provide assistance and a welcoming service to visitors and Centre users.
- Ensure centre is ready for classes and activities.
- Carry out research into potential funding opportunities and assist with funding applications in collaboration with the Funding Officer and Management Committee.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with staff, volunteers, community members, and external partners by listening effectively, providing information in a friendly and supportive manner, and building positive working relationships.
- Capable of managing tasks with minimal supervision while also contributing effectively within a team environment. Reliable, responsible, and able to collaborate with colleagues to support shared goals and ensure the smooth running of the Centre.
Desirable Skills
- Experience using email, word processing, spreadsheets, or social media to support communication and administration.
- Ability to prioritise tasks, manage time effectively, and assist in planning events or activities.
- Understanding of community development, local services, or working with diverse groups.
- Ability to contribute ideas for activities, workshops, or community programmes.
- Able to respond calmly and effectively to unexpected issues or enquiries.
- Experience working with the public, volunteers, or service users in a welcoming or supportive environment.
- Enthusiastic about developing new skills and gaining experience across all areas of Community Centre operations. Open to feedback, adaptable to new tasks, and motivated to take initiative in learning opportunities.
