THE EMPLOYER IS: ACCESS EMPLOYMENT LTD AEL provides 5 training and development programmes for individuals, aged 15 and over with and without additional needs and health related conditions, supporting them to reach their full potential. Trainees on our programmes will be able to access a suite of services, including developing their work experience by participating in live business activities and completing various industry relevant training courses and qualifications, which will enable them to engage with training, education, and employment. They also receive one to one mentoring support and life skills training. The Programmes Skills Coach will provide in work support and assist trainees to develop vocational skills, whilst also liaising with other programme staff to ensure the effective delivery of the programmes we provide. This role is an exciting opportunity to assist trainees to develop their independence skills and to support them to make informed choices about their day to day lives.

Responsibilities

  • Coaching - To provide direct, in work support and to share in completion of work with trainees in accordance with delivery expectations.
  • Coaching - To identify independence skills required by trainees and plan a programme of activities to help them develop these.
  • Coaching - To liaise with parents/carers, social workers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Coaching - To be particularly aware of trainee/employees’ individual needs and abilities, whilst also motivating them to achieve their potential.
  • Coaching - To provide training, coaching and skills development to trainees.
  • Coaching - Assist in planning for the day-to-day work, so that trainees can sample different job roles and develop new skills.
  • Coaching - Deal with any day-to-day operational problems.
  • Coaching - Demonstrate appropriate workplace behaviour to assist trainees to learn the correct workplace etiquette and procedures.
  • Coaching - Supervise trainees and volunteers as required.
  • Coaching - To ensure work tasks are planned, set, and completed on time.
  • Coaching - To ensure minimal product rework or rejection ensure high quality control standards are maintained.
  • Performance - Work independently without direct supervision.
  • Performance - Follow through on set tasks and complete all planned activities to a high standard.
  • Performance - Maintain a good standard of working practice, setting example to others and maintaining good working relations with Staff, Employees, Trainees, Suppliers and Customers.
  • Performance - Undertake and contribute to own supervision and job chats to ensure that agreed targets for work performance are in place and met.
  • Performance - Ability to comply with ISO 9001 quality standards.
  • Documentation - Completion of daily observation records for trainees supported, to ensure progression and development of the trainee’s skills.
  • Documentation - Contribute to distance travelled assessments, evaluations and reviews as a third-party observer and when necessary provide feedback on trainee’s progress in relation to the goals and action plans of the trainee.
  • Documentation - Ensuring that any documentation in completed in an accurate, timely and respectful manner.
  • Documentation - Be aware of current safeguarding legislation and adhere to AEL policies and procedures to always maintain safeguarding.
  • Safety - To undertake personal development and training as is reasonably required to assist with the effective delivery of your job.
  • Safety - To ensure that the production area and office spaces are well always maintained conductive to a safe and productive work environment.
  • Safety - To actively comply with and promote all working policies and procedures.
  • Safety - To always uphold confidentiality regarding Access Employment Limited trainees and business.
  • Safety - Be a representative of Access Employment Limited Ethos and Values to the outside world and act as a role model and mentor to other staff, volunteers and trainees.
  • Safety - Ability to cover for colleagues during absences.
  • Any other relevant duties commensurate with the role and responsibilities of the post as required by Senior Staff or the Trustees.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • A minimum of three Level Two qualifications including literacy and numeracy, (e.g. G.C.S.E, NVQ Level 2, BTEC Level 2) OR at least 2 years (within the last 5 years) relevant experience in a similar support role.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Ability to build rapport and adapt to trainee's needs.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with individuals with learning disability and the barriers they face.
  • Awareness of current Safeguarding legislation.

Desirable Skills

  • Level 3 qualification or above (e.g. A-Level, NVQ Level 3, BTEC Level 3).
  • Knowledge of the self-directed support system.
  • Experience of working within a social firm.
  • Experience and good knowledge of I.T and database systems including: ability to use MS Office (Word, Excel), internet and email.
  • Ability to work under own initiative, including effective prioritisation of tasks and ability to work to agreed aims and objectives.
