Job description

The post holder’s main responsibility will be to provide nursing leadership, clinical expertise and Managerial co-ordination of all nursing services within the Day Surgery Unit at Mid Ulster Hospital. He/she carries 24 hour responsibility for management of the Mid Ulster Day Surgery Unit including the deployment and supervision of staff in order to maximise the effectiveness and efficiency of nursing services provided. The post holder will work closely with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure a co-ordinated approach to care. The post holder will manage and arrange in co-operation with other key staff, all day surgery sessions throughout the Mid Ulster Day Surgery Unit to ensure effective utilisation of resources. He/she will monitor and provide day surgery theatre utilisation reports as agreed by the Lead Nurse and General Manager. Responsibilities

• To ensure nursing services for which the post holder is responsible are provided within the agreed budgetary allocation and to a standard which meets all contractual, professional and statutory specifications.
• To ensure that current treatment protocols are strictly adhered to.
• To ensure that all treatment protocols are systematically and continually evaluated and to prepare and develop new protocols as appropriate.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the live NMC Register.
• Have 5 years’ post-registration experience as a registered nurse with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a day surgery unit or in-patient theatres.
