Medical Receptionist
Job description
THE EMPLOYER IS: ORIEL SURGERY We are currently seeking a Trainee Medical Receptionist to join our team at Oriel Surgery. The Trainee Receptionist will be responsible for welcoming, assisting and directing patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way. He/she will also provide general assistance to the Practice team.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors.
- Answer incoming calls, deal with inquiries, and direct calls appropriately.
- Book, amend and cancel patient appointments using the practice's computer system.
- Check in patients on arrival and inform clinicians of their arrival.
- Manage the reception area and ensure it is tidy and welcoming.
- Process repeat prescription requests according to practice policy.
- File and scan documents into patients' records using the practice clinical systems.
- Update patient records with accurate and relevant information.
- Support the team with recalls, referrals, and appointment reminders.
- Handle patient registration and deregistration.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Communicate effectively with clinical staff, colleagues and patients.
- Handle sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Minimum GCSE English and Mathematics or equivalent.
- IT skills and some familiarity with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable Skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Minimum GCSE English & Mathematics or equivalent.
