Job description
To promote and apply the Building Regulations and allied legislation. To provide a point of contact where clients can obtain an authoritative, independent, accurate service across the wide range of technical matters on which modern construction is founded. Responsibilities
- To advise building designers, builders and the public prior to and following application.
- To assess plans submitted for approval under the Building Regulations and all other relevant legislation.
- To verify Building Control fees to ensure adequacy, and validation of the same under the Building Regulations (Prescribed Fees) legislation.
- To inspect works in progress on site, and provide technical assistance to contractors and designers, including advice concerning compliance. To issue Completion Certificates and Fire Safety Certificates following final inspection.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in an appropriate building related discipline such as architecture, building, civil/ structural engineering.
- OR Full Corporate Membership of an appropriate building related professional institution or association, such as RIBA, CABE, RICS, MICE, CIOB, MIStructE or MIMunE.
- A minimum of 3 years’ post qualification experience, coupled with experience in working with Building Regulations.
- A sound knowledge of advanced principles of building construction and current building techniques; their practical application, and the ability to interpret working drawings and specifications.
- The expertise to ensure that building and associated works are constructed in accordance with Building Regulations.
- A valid driving licence with access to a form of transport that will allow fulfilment of the duties of the post or have access to a suitable form of transport which will enable the post holder to meet the requirements of the post.
Desirable Skills
- Preference may be given to applicants who possess additional qualifications and/or relevant experience.
