Trainee Radio Studio Assistant (Technical Support)
Job description
THE EMPLOYER IS: RADIO STAR The Trainee Radio Studio Assistant will support the day-to-day technical operations of our community radio station. This role is designed to give hands-on experience in studio management, broadcasting equipment, and audio production. The assistant will help ensure that all shows run smoothly, with high sound and video quality, while also learning key technical skills for a career in media and broadcasting. No previous radio or technical experience required - full training will be provided.
Responsibilities
- Assisting with setup of microphones, mixing desks, cameras, and streaming equipment before live and pre-recorded shows.
- Providing technical support during broadcasts, including troubleshooting any issues that arise in real time.
- Monitoring audio levels and maintaining consistent sound quality across all shows.
- Managing and organising digital files, including uploading recorded content to online platforms.
- Supporting the upkeep of studio equipment, logging faults, and helping with basic maintenance.
- Gaining experience with professional broadcasting and editing software such as RØDECaster and Mixcloud.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- A strong interest in radio, audio production, or broadcast technology.
- Basic IT skills and confidence using computers and digital tools.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work to checklists or procedures.
- Willingness to learn new technical skills and software.
- Good attention to detail, particularly when monitoring sound and equipment.
- Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure, especially during live broadcasts.
Desirable Skills
- Reliable and punctual, with a positive attitude to teamwork.
