Job description

The post holder will work as a key member of the Public Health Nursing Team providing leadership to the Safeguarding Children Nurse Specialists, providing advice and support to nursing, midwifery and community public health nursing staff across the Trust on matters relating to Safeguarding children. His/her role will be to ensure good, safe clinical practice in safeguarding matters by ensuring that staff that work with children are aware of and trained to carry out their responsibilities in this area. He/she will support senior nurses across the trust in the implementation of regional polices to support induction, training, supervision and audit of safeguarding practices. Responsibilities

  • To provide clinical expertise, specialist support and guidance on operational, management and strategic matters relating to safeguarding children, to senior nurses/midwives, nurse managers and nursing/midwifery staff across the NHSCT.
  • Provide leadership and operational management for Safeguarding Children Nurse Specialist team working across all Divisions within NHSCT.
  • Lead on the implementation, delivery and audit of Safeguarding Supervision for Nurses/Midwives in line with Regional Safeguarding Children Supervision Policy for Nurses and Midwives.
  • Support nurse/midwifery management and staff to deliver a quality safeguarding children nursing service by providing clinical expertise, advice and support in matters relating to safeguarding children.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Registered Nurse/midwife on part 1 or 2 of live NMC register.
  • Worked as Safeguarding Children’s Nurse Specialist at band 7 for minimum of 3 years.
  • Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment.
  • This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
