Trainee Finance Administrator


Job description

THE EMPLOYER IS: BNL PRODUCTIONS LTD As a Trainee Finance Administrator, you will support the finance team with day-to-day tasks such as recording payments, updating spreadsheets, and helping keep financial records organised. This role would suit someone who is methodical, reliable, and comfortable working with numbers. You do not need previous finance experience - full training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with basic bookkeeping tasks and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Input financial data into spreadsheets and accounting software with a high level of accuracy.
  • Check and verify invoices, receipts, and payment information.
  • Support the processing of staff expenses and routine payments.
  • Help track incoming and outgoing payments and flag discrepancies where needed.
  • Organise, file, and maintain financial documents (both digital and paper).
  • Assist with simple budget monitoring activities under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Prepare finance-related documents for meetings, audits, or internal reviews.
  • Communicate with suppliers, staff, or colleagues to collect missing information or resolve queries.
  • Support reconciliation tasks, such as matching payments to invoices and updating records.
  • Handle sensitive financial information securely and follow confidentiality procedures.
  • Maintain tidy, structured finance folders and help keep systems up to date.
  • Collaborate with the wider finance team and follow established processes and timelines.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling numbers and financial information.
  • Basic numeracy skills and confidence working with figures.
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to maintain tidy and structured records.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to follow instructions and established procedures carefully.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, when dealing with colleagues and suppliers.
  • Methodical approach to completing tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn and apply new skills, tools, and finance systems.
  • Ability to work with confidential information and maintain discretion at all times.
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to prioritise routine tasks.
  • Team-focused mindset, with the ability to collaborate and support others.

Desirable Skills

  • Basic understanding of bookkeeping or financial processes.
  • Experience using spreadsheets or data-entry tools in a school, work, or personal setting.
  • Familiarity with finance or accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, QuickBooks).
  • Ability to analyse simple financial information and spot inconsistencies.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and data protection principles.
  • Good problem-solving skills, especially when dealing with missing or incorrect information.
  • Experience organising documents or managing digital filing systems.
  • Interest in developing a career in finance, accounting, or administration.
  • Ability to work independently when required, while knowing when to seek guidance.
